Film Screening of Salud
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As many of you know, I recently had the opportunity to go to Cuba on a medical education tour. I went with an organization called MEDICC (Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba) which is a non-profit organization working to enhance cooperation among the US, Cuban and global health communities (for more information you can
check them out at:http://www.medicc.org).

On April 19th, MEDICC is holding a fundraiser,
in collaboration with the International Planned Parenthood Foundation,
to screen a film titled Salud. This film tells the compelling story of
the Cuban healthcare system, and its impact on healthcare for poor people
throughout the Third World. After the screening there will be a panel discussion
of physicians who recently went to Cuba featuring myself, Ann Arthur (a
Brooklyn-based ophthalmologist -who happens to also be a friend from college),
and Roxana Cruz (medical director of a community health center on the lower
East side).

IPC-NY General Meeting
Once again, Reggie Nance has been kind enough to host the meeting on Wednesday Aug. 2 from 6pm-8pm at his office located at:

Emmis Communications
395 Hudson Street @ Houston
7th Floor
#1 Train to Houston, head west one block to Hudson
A,B,C,D,E,F Trains to West 4th, head west to Hudson

A tentative Agenda can be found below:

Aim of Meeting: Maximize involvement

Identify and establish committees and their purpose/contributions to IPC

Outline/clarify who is on what committee (each committee needs contact person/leader

Assess functionality of General body meetings and see if the mtgs are really helpful to those that do not attend, promote understanding of IPC and who we are

Establish and assess the status of the Calendar for the rest of the yr and through 2007

I) Introductions- encouragements to get involved

II) Hot Opulence/Welcome to NYC event- poised for Sept. 14th, which is Tues.
-Led by Ayana Evans, Shirley Johnson & Co.
-Venue, costs (Negril was mentioned as an option)
-donations for non ’06 grads of $5 or more needed to be collected to off-set some immediate costs
-gift bag donations needed (IPCNY) was informed by email sent out by Shirley on July 19th and also contributions for promotional, contact info., etc. to Resource guide was also sent out by myself and Roland on the updates)
-there is bar on 12th st
and 3rd ave, which has a great upstairs. They do not
charge for the use of the space and their rates for
appetizers are pretty decent. I also went to an event
in Central Park at 63rd and Madison, it is a rooftop
rented by the Parks Department. I will contact them
and try to get the price info by Wednesday.

(perhaps we should try and encourage other IPC members to seize the opportunity to promote themselves and their biz to fellow alumni)

III) Media Panel in the fall- tentative date
- The committee is set up and Lori Pope is leading the committee

-what’s the role of the event planning/fundraising committee in regards to this event? Do they need help? Who can help?

IV) Other current, upfront expenses- what we can or cannot spend $$ on. (please see Roland’s emails)….i.e., can only donate to 501(c) 3 or educational institution. Or we need assurance that the $ is used for specific cause in which it was donated.

V) Dialogue with Valerie Kennedy and Matt Mallow (Roland’s email)- Boldly Brown folks
-What’s our role? Status of contributions from IPC Nat’l/IPCNY, if any?
-Further expound upon the meeting at BBQ’s and fill in the others that weren’t there (Please see Richard Gray’s Letter)

VI) All Class Reunion on Sept. 29- 30, 2006 & our relationship with IPC National
- we still need the details about this event (talk to Preston or Kenneth Grooms ’72)
- we need to discuss Richard’s letter some more and get some concrete lines of communication with them going. i.e., do we need to cc in a contact person(s) from Nationals with our developments on some sort of scheduled basis, or when we update the site, etc.? (Just a suggesstion

VII) Do we still want to do that "Alum Contest" on the website. Nobody has responded. The webmaster suggests we take the page down. Comments?

VIII) We have a pledge of half the money for the Campus job. We need another $500 for the semester. Does anybody have any ideas.

IX) We need to appoint specific people to hold
responsibilities on the Board of the Ethel Tremaine
Robinson Foundation, such as Treasurer, Secretary,
President and Vice President, so that we can truly
begin to follow the policies and procedures of the
501(c)3.
